Our Client is looking for a well experienced General Manager (15+ years of solid experience) to provide planning and direction to their business unit to ensure the achievement of short and long-range profit and growth objectives, optimal use of site resources, and that processes adhere to regulations and environmental guidelines.

Roles and responsibilities:


  • Promote and provide a safe workplace, seek improvements, support Health & Safety Program.
  • Lead a motivated, efficient, and engaged team of 7 direct reports and provide career development opportunities.
  • Coach and mentor employees to ensure maximum performance. 
  • Maintain a communications program to keep your team informed regarding site and department priorities.
  • Support compliance with collective agreement and sound union/management/employee relations.
  • Ensure management continuity and future workforce requirements are met by applying succession planning systems, effective coaching and mentoring processes, leadership practices, and systematic, effective training.
  • Enhance the sites’ reputation by maintaining positive community relations with municipal, provincial, federal governments, local organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Report to Vice-President, Ontario Operations.


  • Manage and lead the site’s manufacturing and support services, as well as the functional areas of engineering and construction, finance, human resources, and business planning, to ensure that systems and processes are in place to safely and efficiently meet quality and production requirements at minimum cost, within environmental guidelines and regulations.
  • Maximize the profitability of the operations by developing and implementing the operations’ five-year operating plan.
  • Accountable, within a framework, for the development of the Company’s 5-year strategic plans.
  • Provide effective site related services to the site’s Management Groups.
  • Advise and/or recommend changes of opportunities outside of direct area of accountability that will contribute to optimizing the short and long-term growth objectives of the Group, to other Vice Presidents.
  • Identify market-related opportunities to maximize group or site profitability, and persuade the Group’s Sales and Marketing Vice President to take appropriate action.

To be considered for this role you will need to meet the following requirements

  • Education: University degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience: 15+ years with increasing levels of Managerial accountability
  • Language: Spoken and written English (French is an asset)
  • Weekend on-call management duties

18-month Contract position based in Northern Ontario
