Position Overview:

The Legal Counsel will provide securities law and general corporate legal support to Canada Goose. The position involves working with all departments within the company as well as key external stakeholders. The successful candidate will help manage Canada Goose’s transition to being a public company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Vice President, Legal to provide legal counsel to CG relating to securities law matters in Canada and the United States
  • Take the lead on preparing continuous disclosure obligations such as the annual and interim reports as well as proxy circulars
  • Communicate with securities regulators
  • Help to review press releases and handle event driven disclosure obligations
  • Manage internal policies including informing and training employees on relevant obligations
  • Day-to-day corporate commercial work, providing hands-on legal support to the different areas of the business
  • Maintaining compliance with insider reporting obligations
  • Develop and maintain a continuous disclosure calendar
  • Assist in governance matters relating to the board of directors
  • Support the maintenance of the Canada Goose’s intellectual property portfolio
  • Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams to manage and mitigate risk
  • Manage Canadian, American and international legal counsel regarding a range of matters
  • Participate in various projects and major initiatives

Experience, Education and Designations:

  • Law degree from an accredited Canadian law school
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada
  • 2-3 years of securities law and corporate/commercial experience at a major law firm or in-house legal department
  • Exposure to US securities law considered an asset

  • Ability to maintain an efficient balance between legal considerations and business needs
  • Experience with continuous and event driven disclosure obligations
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to provide business oriented legal advice
  • Innovative and resourceful with a strong sense of corporate awareness
  • Have the confidence to make quick decisions and provide strategic advice
  • Proven ability to effectively handle challenging situations in a time sensitive environment
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues in simple and succinct terms
  • Entrepreneurial and possesses the ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills; approachable demeanour
  • Enjoys the challenges of a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to speak authoritatively
  • Ability to inspire confidence
