Nursing Supervisor (Temporary Full Time 60 hours biweekly – 1 year contract)

Position Summary:

The Nursing Supervisor is accountable for overseeing nursing functions.  Reporting to the Director of Retirement and Recreation Services, the Nursing Supervisor will assess, plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of tenant care.

Qualifications:

  • Current certificate from the College of Nurses of Ontario and successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support 
  • Minimum of 5 years current clinical nursing practice as a Registered Practical Nurse with demonstrated expertise in gerontology
  • Previous supervisory experience is an asset
  • Long-term care experience / Retirement Home experience is preferred.
  • Current knowledge and application of long-term care nursing standards and best practice guidelines

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintain integrity of various nursing initiatives, coordinate available resources, plan and organize training of new staff.
  • Regularly review nursing activities, problems, and functions with the Director of Retirement.
  • Assist with Nursing Recruitment (Registered Practical Nurse, Health Care Aides).
  • Assist with the orientation of new Nursing Staff, Nursing Staff Transfers, and students
  • Coordinate student placements for Retirement Living.
  • Supervise Nursing Staff including making regular rounds to ensure compliance with standards established by Belmont House, the Health Disciplines Act, RHRA, and all other legislation.
  • Coordinate all in house clinics (ie. Dentistry, audiology, dermatology).
  • Assist with all pre-admission assessments.
  • Assist with care planning / care coordination and hospital discharge planning.
  • Assist with billing of care and services.
  • Liaise with outside care provides.
  • Maintain strong working relationship with CCAC.
  • Ensure UCPS (unregulated care providers) are properly trained and Provide ongoing support to Unregulated Care providers in the provision of medication administration.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and revision of policies, procedures, and programs related to safety, infection control, quality of Tenant care, RHRA, etc.
  • Maintain and ensures confidentiality of all Tenants and staff records and information.
  • Keep Tenant documentation up-to-date, and reviews staff documentation on Tenants.
  • Monitor 6MMR, Immunization (TB and Pneumovax) q 6month PCC assessment.
  • Work with staffing clerk and Human Resources to identify Nursing attendance issues related to the posted Nursing Schedule.
  • Audit Tenant charts to ensure all assessments are completed as per the RHRA legalisation.
  • Provide new Tenant orientation / ensure proper assessments are completed.
  • Implement and monitor Falls prevention program.
  • Use the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Contribute to the formulation of nursing and related policies and procedures, and maintains current copies of it.
  • Actively involved in the Continuous Quality and Risk process through collection, evaluation and processing of data, as well as addressing deficiencies to ensure standards are met.
  • Organize Tenant care plan meetings with POAs when required.
  • Actively involved in The Continuous Quality Improvement Process, through the collection, evaluating and processing of data, as well as addressing the identified deficiencies to ensure standards are met.
  • Uphold all requirements in the collective agreement for employees in the department including participating in the grievance process up to and including arbitration.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Director of Retirement and Recreation Services.

  • Position is Temporary Full Time (60 hours biweekly) – 1 year contract.
