Housekeeping Supervisor

Located in Downtown Toronto (5 minutes from Bay/Bloor), Belmont House is a charitable, non-profit, Christian home for seniors offering long term care, retirement living and apartments. For more than 160 years we have provided quality care to our residents in a safe and stimulating home environment.   Belmont House values respect, caring, innovation, teamwork, excellence and responsiveness.  We are currently seeking a Housekeeping Supervisor on a Regular Full Time Basis (37.50 hours weekly)

Reporting to the Director of Support Services, the Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for all Housekeeping functions including supervising staff, assigning tasks, following budget, ensures universal precautions and infection control guidelines are met and reports all concerns/issues to department head. 


(Other duties may be assigned).


-Assign duties to Housekeepers, Cleaners and Laundry staff and conducts inspections and follow-ups to ensure all prescribed standards have been met

-Supervise tasks completed to ensure standards of Belmont House  and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care have been met

-Conduct orientation training of new employees and in-service training of other employees to explain company policies, housekeeping work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment

-Attend training seminars to perfect housekeeping techniques and infection control procedures to ensure all tasks are performed correctly and in a safe manner to ensure resident satisfaction

-Record data concerning work assignments, personnel actions, and time cards, and prepares periodic reports

-Review and update policies and procedures for the department as required

-Make recommendations to improve department services to ensure more efficient operation.

-May prepare reports as assigned by Director of Support Services concerning payroll, department expenses, etc.

-Complete Quality Improvement Audits daily, monthly, and quarterly

-Responsible for set up of special functions

-Order product and operating supplies according to inventory

-Monitor extra services requested by residents and tenants

-Carry out all other job related duties assigned by the Director of Support Services.



-Address all questions/inquiries from residents and tenants
-Investigate complaints regarding housekeeping services and equipment, and takes corrective action
-Ensure residents and tenants setup procedures have been completed to ensure residents and tenants needs have been taken care (clothing labelled, clean room, etc.)


-Hire, orient, train, evaluate and supervise staff in compliance with standards established by Belmont House and all other pertinent legislation
-Supervise housekeeping, cleaners and laundry personnel including conducting performance appraisals
-Has the authority to counsel staff and to provide recommendations to Director of Support Services on appropriate disciplinary action required up to and including dismissal Ensure the collective agreement is adhered to in all areas of the department


-Participate in the preparation and implementation of the department budget
-Complete work schedule for all housekeeping, cleaners and laundry staff
-Compile, review and submit biweekly payroll for processing
-Monitor and order supplies and equipment as required
-Issue supplies, uniforms and equipment to workers
-Ensure that staff uses equipment and supplies correctly following manufacturers’ recommendations and established procedures

COMPETENCIES (Behavioural & Technical Skills)

-Ability to interact with seniors

-Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

-Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service approach

-Ability to learn tasks within a short period of time (will receive on the job training)

-Demonstrates understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and the organizations’ health and safety plans, policies and procedures.  Attends Health and Safety in-services and takes action to address unsafe conditions and procedures, to ensure a healthy a safe work environment.


-5+ years of previous experience in housekeeping is required

-A post-secondary degree or diploma is an asset;

-A minimum of two years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.

-Knowledge of evidence-based practices and, if there are none, prevailing practices relating to housekeeping and laundry as applicable

-Previous experience in Long Term Care preferred


-Housekeeping Supervisor may spend considerable time walking and standing to ensure Housekeepers, Cleaners, and Laundry staff follow rigid, standardized guidelines to guard against disease and other dangers.
