Your Opportunity
BDO Canada’s Management Consulting Practice is a national Service Line helping our clients actively address and solve their business challenges. Our Ottawa office is looking for a Co-op or Intern to join our Public Sector Strategy & Transformation (PSST) team to take on the following responsibilities:
- Deliver high quality management consulting services in various areas including support of organizational and technology transformation, economic development, strategic planning, business operations and execution, research and analysis, and program / project management.
- Support client engagements using your business acumen to generate insights and create value for BDO’s clients
- Develop informative, compelling, and persuasive client-facing project deliverables, presentations, and collateral materials through available resources [including but not limited to: MS Office; Collaboration Tools; etc.)
- Build trust and confidence with our clients to contribute to developing practical solutions that will last
- Collaborate with a high-quality delivery team in support of individual and team growth
- Develop trusting relationships across BDO’s diverse teams of business service professionals
- Support the advancement of business opportunities, including the development of thought leadership that will grow your own and BDO’s presence in the local business community
It is expected that the successful candidate would support other Service Lines (e.g., People Advisory team).
Some of the client challenges our team have been engaged on in the past year include:
- Supporting a Government of Canada department in developing s strategic plan, including conducting jurisdictional scan, SWOT and PESTEL analyses as well as the development of the performance measurement framework.
- Conducting a feasibility assessment on a potential merger of two prominent charitable organizations in the National Capital Region, including a review and alignment of funding, programming, branding and target population, with the goal of better serving the community
- Working with a federal institution to develop a business case, including the demonstration of organizational project management capabilities, to seek the required authorities from central agencies to manage projects and investments as part of a five (5) year investment plan
- Working with a First Nation community to undertake a quantified feasibility study of investments and sensitivities, including a financial validation assessment and market assessment, for the acquisition and operations of cannabis retail locations in the province
- Assessing organizational capabilities against leading practices and relevant policies and guidelines in a complex, IT-enabled project-based environment to inform continuous improvement efforts for a large federal department
- Administering a province-wide survey, on behalf of a not-for-profit provincial Commission, to collect critical data and determine the cost of production for a commodity
- Completing an Economic Impact Assessment to measure the impact of the pandemic on Canadian tour operators and the Canadian economy to inform long term business planning in response to the impacts of COVID-19

Your experience and education
- You are currently working towards a degree/diploma, focused in Commerce, Economics, Social Sciences, or other relevant program
- You have completed or are currently completing a relevant post-secondary program to obtain a degree / diploma
- You have completed or are interested in pursuing professional designation(s); Examples include but are not limited to: CMC, PMP, Prosci, and Lean Six Sigma
- You have excellent communication skills – both verbal and written – in English; Bilingual capacity in French is considered an asset
- You are passionate about learning and exploring new ideas, opportunities, and challenges
- You have an acumen for applying effective and efficient solutions that provide a positive impact to client’s problems
- You display strong problem solving and analytical skills as well as writing and communication skills
- You have or qualify to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance
