We are seeking a Controller to join our Team in Ottawa!

The mission of the Controller is to coordinate and oversee all daily accounting and treasury processes, as well as monthly financial reporting processes, for the Modern Niagara Ottawa group of businesses, to ensure they are carried out efficiently, effectively, and within established timelines.

The Controller must work with both his/her Finance teammates, as well as with Operations staff, to ensure that the highest level of service is provided to projects, external clients and external vendors.

The Controller must also both live and promote Modem Niagaras Core Values in all of his/her actions and support the efforts of the entire Modem Niagara team towards achievement of established financial and business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

The incumbent will have the opportunity to develop professionally and advance his/her Finance career upward within Modem Niagara through a combination of both education and a breadth of professional experience.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES Monitor Work-in-Process (“WIP”) reports and work with the Director of Finance and Operations Managers to ensure billing targets are met or exceeded Coordinate General Accountants and Project Managers to ensure invoices are finalized and issued within established deadlines Promote and support communication between General Accountants and Project Managers to ensure contract and invoicing issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner Work with Project Managers and Project Coordinators to ensure billing breakdowns are established for each contract in a manner to provide maximum financing advantage Supervise Accounts Payable Supervisor and Specialists, and provide guidance to ensure Accounts Payable processes are conducted with optimum effectiveness and efficiency Promote and support communication between Accounts Payable Specialists and Project Coordinators and Managers to ensure Purchase Order issues are resolved effectively and efficiently Support Accounts Payable Supervisor, and work with vendors directly to resolve invoicing and payment issues when necessary Coordinate bi-weekly cheque runs for each group company, ensure payments are accurate and managed to optimize Company cash flow Work with IT department to identify technology solutions for improving the accuracy and efficiency of recording and processing vendor payments Prepare monthly financial reporting package for Modern Niagara Ottawa’s Construction business units.

Identify and implement opportunities to streamline the financial reporting package or add reports that will help the Modern Niagara Ottawa Executive Team achieve the Company’s financial goals more effectively.

Control and maintain/update the Company’s cash forecasts, ensuring cash resources are optimized and Company liquidity is maintained at all times Provide guidance to General Accountants regarding the appropriate accounting treatment for certain transactions Identify opportunities to improve the tracking and accounting of assets and liabilities Coordinate responses to external auditor inquiries Complete special projects on an ad-hoc basis, as assigned Manage the finance team and provide development opportunities Provide leadership and promote adherence to Modern Niagaras core values QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Professional accounting designation required (CPA).

An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered for the right candidate Minimum 5 years of financial management or Controllership experience Ability and willingness to lead people.
