Six Month Payroll Clerk

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted October 5, 2018.


Mission Statement: Homes First Society develops and provides affordable, stable housing and support services to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.

The Role: As a member of the Finance Department, the Payroll Clerk is accountable for collecting, verifying and processing timesheets, and issuing pay and pay-related information to staff.


Job Description:

  • Timely input and coordination of the bi-weekly payroll, utilizing Ceridian
  • Prepare payroll breakdown report for journal entries
  • Timely filing of all payroll-related returns & remittance of statutory payments, such as WSIB, EHT returns, Record of Employment
  • Administer payroll duties as required
  • Process new hires, terminations and salary and position changes
  • Maintain and update all personnel files in regards to payroll
  • Other duties/projects as assigned


  • 1-2 years of experience in payroll
  • Payroll Certificate as asset
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations in regards to payroll processing
  • Experience with Ceridian an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft with emphasis on Excel
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
