Engineering Manager

SNC-Lavalin

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted November 5, 2017.

Job Description

PURPOSE

Manage the engineering team to ensure that all technical documentation is executed in accordance with the project requirement for quality, while respecting the pre-established constraints for budget (capital and services costs) and schedule.  Maintain an ongoing working relationship with the Client Engineering Manager, the Area Managers, and with the key procurement, controls and construction team members.

All engineering activities required for the project.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

In accordance with the Project Procedures and as approved by the Project Manager, the Engineering Manager has the responsibility and commensurate authority to accomplish the following duties:

Planning and Organization

Ÿ              Plan and direct the mobilisation of the engineering personnel to ensure that suitably qualified engineers, technicians and drafts-persons will be available as and when required.

Ÿ              Prepare a list of engineering deliverables (coded in such a way that they can be sorted by discipline, facility or work package) and indicating the hours required per document, to permit the planning and control of the engineering budget and schedule.  (Engineering Management System (EMS).

Ÿ              Prepare the project engineering procedures.

Engineering Operations

Ÿ              Prepare all technical documentation required for the execution of the project, including, but not limited to:

                –              General layout drawings

                –              Design criteria

                –              Preliminary studies

                –              Process flow sheets

                –              Single-line diagrams

                –              Process and Instrumentation Diagrams

                –              Standard specifications

                –              Standard detail drawings

                –              Construction and/or fabrication drawings

                –              Equipment lists

                –              Instrument index

                –              Technical specifications

                –              As-built drawings

Manage and coordinate the progress of the engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule and procedures.

ŸReview shop drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs.

ŸAfter the award of contracts and purchase orders, monitor the fabrication and construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering design.

Control of Engineering Budgets and Schedules

Using the EMS, measure on a monthly basis, the progress of engineering work packages, to ensure that the budgets and schedules are being met.  If necessary take corrective action.

Quality Assurance

Ensure that the quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with the Project Procedures and the quality assurance plan.

Ensure that the checking of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is carried out in accordance with the Project Procedures.

Motivation

ŸEstablish and maintain a climate favourable to the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of the engineering work.

Ÿ Train and aid his subordinates in their proposal development.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Project Manager.

Maintains a close working relationship with the Client Engineering Manager to ensure direct, rapid and efficient communications on all technical aspects of the project.

Maintains a functional relationship with each of the following:

–              Area Managers

–              Planning and Controls Manager

–              Procurement Manager

–              Construction Manager

–              Pre-Operational Verification Manager

–              QA Manager

–              Site Resident Manager

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.Sc. Degree in an engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 20 years experience in engineering and engineering management in an EPC/EPCM environment with a preference for individuals with a proven track record in Industrial and Mining / Metallurgical Projects
  • Good knowledge of design processes and systems
  • Prior experience managing multidiscipline engineering groups
  • Must possess leadership and coaching skills in the development, training and mentoring of team members and support staff
