Health Coach


This is a Part-time position in Toronto, ON posted July 4, 2018.

The Role:

Medcan is recruiting for a successful Body Station Tester who will be able to conduct a comprehensive lifestyle (fitness and nutrition) assessment, with the ability to design and convey constructive feedback to the client. The tester will work with the client – discussing body composition, muscle and joint movement screen and cardiovascular capacity results, to design a realistic goal setting plan for the individual – or simply to give tips and suggestions on how to improve. Included in this lifestyle assessment station is a nutrition discussion/consultation. Findings from this discussion will guide the testers thoughts on how the client can continue to improve their diet, to better line up with their health and fitness goals. 

The conversations surrounding exercise and nutrition can be, but are not limited to, weight loss or weight gain, increase muscle mass, injury rehab or specific event training.


Accountabilities of the role:

Fitness Scope

  • Conduct InBody testing
  • Conduct Muscle and Joint Fitness testing
  • Conduct Anthropometric measurements (height, waist, hips and weight)
  • Provide clients recommendations and corrective exercises based on results

Nutrition Scope

  • Conduct a concise 15-20min nutrition assessment
  • Recognize any unhealthy eating patterns
  • Suggest healthy eating strategies
  • Work with a client to discuss a healthy daily eating plan to manage weight
  • Identify nutrient deficiencies using a 24-hour food records/Food Frequency Questionnaire

Stress Testing Scope

  • Ability to identify and recognize cardiac arrhythmias during a 12-lead graded exercise test. 

The Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Kinesiology or Health Sciences, Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion (or related), or Personal Training/Fitness Assessment Certificate
  • Current CPR certification
  • Certificate for Cardiac Stress Testing (CSCT, OSCT)
  • Active member of Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologist
  • BSLS at minimum, ACLS preferred
  • Nutrition certificate is required
  • Must have the ability to work within a large team
  • Should possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Performs daily maintenance on equipment
  • Adheres to policies and procedures
  • Monitor and facilitate the flow of patients through the Clinic
  • Ability to work with a variety of client populations

This is a part-time role that is scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm.
