Position Description
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (6 months) Lifeguard to work in the Social Support Services Program. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Therapeutic Neighbourhood, Social Support Services, responsibilities include but are not limited to: maintaining constant surveillance of the individuals in the pool area; acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of all individuals in the event of an emergency. The Lifeguard will provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services, including CPR, first aid and use of emergency equipment as needed. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. You will explain and ensure that both Lifesaving Society and CAMH policies, rules, and regulations are followed. The candidate will enforce CAMH pool rules by warning swimmers of improper activities or hazards and ensure compliance with Ontario Health Regulations and legislation and Policy and Procedures manuals. You will also provide preliminary screening of swimmers to establish water skill level. Maintaining records and completing required reports; performing maintenance duties including but not restricted to pool chemistry tests, and pool fouling clean up; notifying supervisor of any accidents, rescues, or problems that have arisen. You will ensure that the equipment is in place, operational, and stored away after use. The lifeguard will be completing opening/closing safety checklists; Completing environmental safety inspections and follow up as necessary. You will monitor and log individuals in the pool area in accordance with CAMH processes. You will participate in special events, emergency procedure training, and other training as required. Lifeguard will present in professional appearance and attitude at all times. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.  Day, evening and weekend hours will be required.  This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

The successful candidate will have a secondary school diploma and a current Red Cross WSI and Canadian Life Saving Instructors certification. You must have a current National Lifeguard Service (NLS) award. A current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification is also required. You must maintain fitness level and certification in accordance to National Lifeguard Service (NLS) standard. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural backgrounds is also an asset.  Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please Note:        This full-time, temporary (6 months) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range:      $17.82 – $20.62 per hour
