Occupational Health Nurse

It’s an exciting time to start working with Oncidium!

We are looking for a talented and energetic nurse (RN or RPN) to join our team of innovative and high quality nursing staff who provide occupational health nursing services to our clients in industry including: medical surveillance, return to work planning and disability management.

Full Time (18 month contract with possibility of extension)

Location: Client in East Toronto

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides primary care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses, including: preparing modified work plans, Return to Work planning, and disability management;
  • Provides First Aid for injured employees;
  • Performs health assessments as required by the employer: vision, audiometry, pulmonary function testing, mask fit testing.
  • Provides education and information to both managers and staff regarding disability management and return to work;
  • Participates in safety initiatives and takes action to address unsafe conditions and procedures to ensure a healthy and safe environment;
  • Ensures evidence based and industry best practices are utilized, by involving subject matter expertise on a regular basis;
  • Makes referrals to internal resources (i.e. EAP provider) as well as external resources to help support employee health;
  • Participates in absenteeism management program;
  • Identifies and integrates preventative measures to promote health and control hazards specific to the facility setting such as: biological, physical, chemical, ergonomic and psychological;
  • Develop and maintain positive client relationships at all levels of the client organization;
  • Ensure relevant legislation is adhered to, including Ministry of Labour, Occupational Health and Safety Acts, WSIB Acts, PHIPA, PIPEDA;
  • Participate in the Health and Safety committee;
  • Maintain accurate record keeping systems for all nursing care administered;
  • Provides health teaching and counseling for a variety of health topics and concerns;
  • Plans and deliver health and wellness activities and campaigns.

  • Current Certificate of Registration and member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO);
  • COHN certification is an asset;
  • At least 2 years of occupational health and safety nurse experience required;
  • Experience in return to work planning and disability case management is required;
  • Current Standard First Aid Certificate & demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to medical emergencies;
  • Motivated and self-directed individual with the ability to function effectively both autonomously and as a team member;
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant of the OHSA & Health Care Regulations, WSIA & Regulations, WHMIS, Occupational Health Principles and Practices, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Case Management and OHRC duty to accommodate principles;
  • Excellent communication (oral, written, and presentation) and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong organizational, time management skills and problem solving skills; able to set and adjust priorities;
  • Proficient in MS Office and electronic medical records management software;
  • Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
