Pharmacy Manager | Northern Canada

Job Title: Pharmacy Manager

Job Purpose: Looking for a permanent pharmacist to be a Pharmacy Manager in Northern Canada. Start date to be confirmed but  expected would need in location for end of January, with orientation and training to be provided earlier in January.This is a booming community, rapidly growing population. Mining operation nearby that drives the economy. Our store is newly renovated and has a Tim Hortons and Pizza Hut/KFC on site. The people in community are wonderfully friendly. The pharmacy opened this past January and currently does volume of about 50 prescriptions per day. The pharmacist is currently the only staff member and any candidate would need to have the ability to effectively work completely independently on a Kroll system. Expectation is that the new manager would be able to hire and train a local person to work as a pharmacy clerk.

The salary is $120-$135K. Pharmacy hours are Mon-Fri 10AM-6PM (with a 1-hour closure for lunch) but additional hours may be required by the job from time to time. Vacation of 4 weeks and a retention bonus of $15,000 each year on the anniversary of employment and a performance bonus = eligible for annual performance bonus based on achievement of assigned targets – target payout up to max of 30% of base salary are included with this position.

Housing (provided)

  • paid for in form of a housing allowance; rent is then deducted
  • Housing is fully furnished with basic furniture and appliances (except DVD player, stereo, home computer)Basic utilities (heat, electricity, water, sewer, basic telephone) are included – employee responsible for long distance telephone, cable/satellite, internet, etc. Housing must be made available to relief pharmacists covering vacation

  • Initial transportation expenses to get to store location paid as a forgivable loan which is amortized over the duration of his work term
  • Moving allowance = $500 for a single person; $1000 for a couple/family
  • Licensing costs – we will cover licensing as well as to maintain current license and liability insurance
  • Continuing education – $750 annually towards professional education may be submitted for reimbursement

  • Program, direct, review, and rectify pharmacy procedures.
  • Render assistance to the technical and professional personnel in mixing, compounding and dispensing of various medications utilized by and sold to hospital patients.
  • Make formal requests for all supplies needed.
  • Familiarize self with current new pharmaceutical preparations prescribed for utilization by patients to be able to render assistance to hospital staff.
  • Set up and maintain a certified system of keeping records and the preparation of yearly budgets.
  • Oversee the organization of inventories.
  • Establish and support pharmacy services in line with state and federal requirements.
  • Design and organize job descriptions and prepare annual performance evaluation on all employees in a prompt manner.
  • Support supervising staff with the annual budget and hand over capital expenditures in line with standard policies.
  • Evaluate and improve manual of Policy and Procedure every year.
  • Institute and implement enhancement of quality for the department.
  • Perform selection of departmental staff and give orientation and supervision, as well as dismissal when necessary.
  • Plan, administer, organize, and successfully implement all activities in relation to the pharmacy operations.
  • Provide guidance on medications and prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs in line with hospital policies.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Licensed Pharmacist
  • Previous Pharmacy Management experience is preferred
  • Good working knowledge of Pharmacy operating systems
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Great organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting
