Status: Temporary Full-time for approx. 1 year

Hours: Monday to Friday, primarily days. Will require flexibility to meet staff needs, e.g. work evening, night or weekend hours for purposes of orientation and education. (hours are subject to change based on operational requirements).

This is what you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Program Director of the Georgetown Family Practice with accountability to the corporate Director of Professional Practice, the Professional Practice Clinician (PPC) is responsible for advancing practice and quality of patient care through integration of best practices, effective knowledge transfer, program planning and evaluation skills. With a primary focus on the Emergency Department the PPC will collaborate with Patient Care Managers, Physician stakeholders, and PPCs across Georgetown Family Practice and Halton Healthcare to maximize quality of care and support staff development. The role encompasses the following responsibilities:

  • Facilitates and provides leadership in the comprehensive orientation and evaluation plan for nurses within the emergency department, and supporting units.
  • Facilitates continuous learning and professional development through clinical education, coaching and mentoring.
  • Supports and participates in quality and safety initiatives, including implementing and evaluating patient care processes and procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of evidence and/or research-based practice methods and standards.
  • Develops, reviews and revises policies and procedures related to professional practice and clinical care, and provides supporting education and evaluation.
  • As a member of the Office of Professional Practice, collaborates with other PPCs to plan and facilitate corporate quality and safety initiatives including monthly Nursing Orientation.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for promoting a work environment that exemplifies respect, inter-professional and ethical practice, professional autonomous decision-making, and maximized scopes of practice.
  • Serves as a role model and leader to support nursing care that optimizes patient outcomes and experiences while enhancing the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Participates in community and regional initiatives that have a direct relationship to the Programs.
  • Facilitates and promotes staff to attain and retain recognized professional credentials.
  • Performs regular quality monitoring audits to determine compliance to standards of practice and standards of care.

This is what you’ll need to do it:

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • BScN or BN required
  • Masters Degree completed or in progress
  • Minimum of 5 years related clinical/clinical teaching experience in the Emergency Department
  • Significant, recent experience as an educator including the ability to design and deliver programs
  • Current ACLS, BCLS, PALS, Coronary Care 1 and 2
  • Emergency Nursing/PEARS/NRP certification preferred
  • Instructor status in PALS, ACLS or CTAS is an asset
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, tools, techniques, principles
  • Knowledge of best practices, clinical practice guidelines and clinical management tools
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and team leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritize/organize multiple projects with strict deadlines
  • Creative and resourceful
