Position Description
The Nursing Resources Unit (NRU) is currently seeking ten (10) full-time, permanent Registered Nurses. As a member of the NRU, the Registered Nurse will successfully complete a competency-based orientation and be expected to apply and maintain practice based competencies throughout all clinical assignments. You will provide high quality nursing care to patients/clients and families and will expected to engage in ongoing and structured learning through the NRU to achieve this goal. As a staff RN with the NRU, you will be on-boarded and cross-trained to work across all clinical inpatient areas: Acute, Rehabilitation, Adult Neurodevelopmental Service/Geriatrics and Youth/Emerging Adult.

As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centered mental health and addictions, as well as general nursing care. In addition, you will ensure the security and safety of the inpatient unit to which you are assigned, and practice in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH Policies and Professional Practice Model, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.

Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, perform ongoing assessments including physical and mental status assessments, monitor the client’s response to pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions, develop, implement and evaluate interprofessional client centred care plans, and effectively communicate with other team members. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. These positions involve shift rotation and weekend work. These positions are located at the Queen Street and College Street sites.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario combined with one (1) year experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing or have 3 month’s experience through the New Graduate Guarantee Initiative. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team. Effective leadership, decision-making including a demonstrated ability to think critically about issues along with organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric/mental health nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is required. You have demonstrated interest in continuous learning and professional development.

The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Please Note: These ten (10) full-time permanent positions are part of the ONA bargaining unit.

Salary Range: $37.93 – $54.37 per hour
