The gig.
The Payroll Manager will play a critical role in developing and implementing processes and managing payroll for a growing workforce in Canada, the US and Europe. The position reports to the Senior Director, People & Culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will oversee the day-to-day operations and delivery of timely, and accurate semi-monthly payroll for 500+ employees in Canada, the US and Europe.
  • Serve as the payroll subject matter expert for both Canada, the US and Europe.
  • You will be responsible for leadership and oversight of the payroll team, hiring, training, managing deliverables and performance.
  • You will manage the preparation, distribution, and reporting of payroll information, including preparing account reconciliations, lead the year-end process for reporting and filing of tax forms and government filing, and support internal and external audits.
  • You will provide leadership to streamline and drive improvements. Research, recommend and implement new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness that support business needs.
  • Working closely with Finance, and People & Culture to develop and improve controls around payroll processing, secure data validation and system interfaces.
  • Lead implementation of payroll system enhancements and integration with benefit providers.
  • You will perform quality control audits and assess proper controls necessary are in place.
  • Ensure compliance with all related federal, state/provincial legislation, and corporate policies as they relate to administration of payroll, including salaries, commissions, bonuses, termination payments, and other special payments.

Desired Skills, Education & Experience

  • Senior experience (3-5 years at minimum) in payroll administration and experience in a supervisory/manager role. You can lead change management processes and have strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills to anticipate and manage issues proactively.
  • Significant experience in Canadian and US payroll practices, and related legislation
  • Experience with Stock Purchase plans, and cross border employment pay cycles is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll process improvements and business efficiencies.
  • You possess a continuous improvement mindset and are process oriented. You work to deliver solutions that meet the needs of a fast-paced high-growth company.
  • CPA/CPM designation
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now (WFN) and ADP Run is considered an asset
  • Advanced G Suite and Microsoft Excel skills to reconcile and analyze payroll variances and discrepancies and provide detailed reporting & analytics
  • Experience in a hyper-growth and Public Company environment strongly preferred
