Director, Applications & Architecture

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted October 5, 2018.

What is the opportunity?

As Director, Applications and Architecture, you will be part of the Cyber and IT Risk team risk professionals who provide oversight and challenge to RBC’s Technology team.  The position is focused on using your deep, current experience to ensure that the Architecture and Innovation team provides the leadership, processes and tooling necessary for Technology to build, maintain  secure, competitive and operable IT application services.   You will stay at the forefront of technology management by injecting your experience and vision into the creation of relevant, forward looking, well-crafted policy documents, collaboratively with the Applications and Architecture team.  You will maintain a point of view of RBC’s status in this area supported by d by timely recognition of gaps and meaningful metrics/risk indicators. 

 

What will you do?

  • Use your up to date application development, management and architecture expertise, to provide credible oversight and challenge over Architecture and Innovations leadership, support and governance activities. 
  • Promote management’s key risk self-assessment work and review self-identified risk issues and acceptance to ensure quality and that the business is operating within Risk Appetite
  • Support business Risk Control Self-Assessments with appropriate subject matter expertise
  • Leverage data driven insight and provide opinions and challenge on key risk indicators
  • Provide challenge and oversight over major technology related initiatives in relation to the bank’s Risk Appetite 
  • Maintain awareness on global trends/threats/incidents through 1st line processes, and provide relevant context to the business. 
  • Develop  effective business and technology relationships with key stakeholders
  • Provides expert advice on RBC’s IT Risk framework, policies, standards and guidelines to a complex level, and contribute to their development in your domain.

 

What do you need to succeed?

  • Must-have
    • Minimum of 10 years progressive application development, management and architecture experience demonstrating successful delivery and management of complex applications
    • Minimum of 5 years experience of formal people management responsibilities
    • Extensive experience implementing Agile, Dev Ops
    • Effective communication skills in implementing & enforcing security polices, procedures and standards
    • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science / Engineering or related field
  • Nice-to-have
    • 5 years experience with a global bank with a federated IT operating model
    • CISSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC or CGEIT active certification
    • CEH, GCIH, PMP or CIPP/IT
