ResponsibilitiesRole overview – overview of the focal points of this roleParticipate in numerical tool development, continuous maintenance, and improvementProvide technical leadership to the development of computationally efficient, accurate, optical performance-estimatorsUnderstand and quantify the performance of optical signals propagated through chain of optical amplified spans and ROADMsDevelop and implement engines that simulates the optical hardware and control algorithms to match the performance of the real product, and guarantee the optical network performanceSupport the neighboring teams using the performance models to solve Customer applicationsWhy is this role important within Ciena?

What impact can you expect to have?As an optical system designer working on Planning and Link Engineering simulation tools, you will help empowering Ciena’s Sales Engineering and our customers to design efficiently and planned optimally systems to meet requirements and expectations.As Ciena’s systems becomes intelligent, self-aware and adaptive simulators are critical to assess optical networks dynamical responses to predict performance, to maximize value and to quantify benefits of Ciena’s proposal.

As an optical system designer working on those tools, you will be at the center of this development.What type of work environment will you be working in?

Who are the key teams with whom you will interact?The role of an optical system designer working on Planning and Link Engineering tools simulation tools has a large component of system integration.

So, you will be having a pivotal role in connecting many multidisciplinary teams such as photonic HW, photonic systems control, Modems designs and testing, Planning Tools U/UX design teams, sales teams, etc.What technical experience and/or professional and personal skills are required for this role?Understanding of optical systems, components, device physics, error analysis and statisticsExcelling in understanding complex systems, divide in functional blocks, organize assemble through APIsExperience working with and/or developing modeling tools is a strong assetExcellent technical writing ability in EnglishExcellent communication and vulgarization capabilitiesStrives for excellenceEnjoys challenging problemsAutonomousKnowledge of version control systemsMatlab, C/C++ programming skillsFamiliarity with LinuxRewarding experience.
