Manager, personal lending branch network – 14 month contract

Meridian Credit Union

This is a Full-time position in St Catharines, ON posted October 10, 2019.

Purpose of the Job Personal Lending is part of the Risk Management function at Meridian.

The Department is accountable for providing prompt adjudication and credit coaching to the branch and Mobile Mortgage Specialist networks for Member retail credit needs as well as the adjudication of Meridian’s Visa Credit Card portfolio.

As a Manager, Personal Lending (Branch Network), your responsibility is to provide exceptional service to all our Branches through leading the Personal Lending Coaches (Branch Network) to ensure prompt service, support and adjudication for all Consumer Lending products outside of branch approval authority.

You will be the subject matter expert for the team, providing both technical knowledge and guidance to the Personal Lending Coaches and the branch network for the day to day activities of the department.

In addition, you will provide support and work with the Manager, Mobile Mortgage Network to support all Retail Lending Channels.

Key Responsibilities Provide management and coaching to the Personal Lending Coaches (Branch Network) to foster a strong team dynamic and high level of employee engagement With the Manager, Mobile Mortgage, manage resources to ensure the department can meet the requirements of all Retail Credit adjudication needs, including cross training and support between the Branch Network and Mobile Mortgage Specialist Channel to ensure negotiated service level agreements are maintained Handle credit escalations from the Branch Network to maintain a good working relationship between Delivery and Personal Lending Underwrite deals submitted for adjudication to ensure timely responses are delivered Ensure sound and consistent retail underwriting practices, including utilization of Risk Based Lending principles are applied by the Personal Lending Coaches (Branch Network) Identify lending training needs and with the Senior Manager, Personal Lending, develop, design and deliver training programs to support the Retail Network Identify retail credit policy gaps and process deficiencies and recommend changes for improvement to the Senior Manager, Personal Lending Remain informed of changes to lending practices within the market place and of changes to the lending practices of our private and government High Ratio Insurers, and ensure that these changes are documented and communicated for all lending staff on an ongoing basis Knowledge, Skills and Experience Minimum of three years experience in a leadership role along with extensive experience in Personal Lending underwriting in a financial services environment is required with a knowledge and focus in the following areas Five years of experience with lending policies and restrictions, both in the general marketplace and specific to Meridian including Meridian lending policies Risk Based Lending principles Knowledge and interpretation of regulatory and legislative requirements for lending Excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills, with demonstrated leadership qualities necessary to draft and deliver training material effectively in the growth of employees Ability to employ good tact, judgment and objectivity Ability to present logical well drafted recommendations for presentation to higher levels of authority as well as peers Good judgement in dealing with complex issues and conflict situations Strong lending skills to be responsible and accountable for approval or recommending for approval complex deals Ability to work with Branch Managers and DVPs to maintain strong relationships and communications skills to handle difficult situations/credit decisions to ensure the outcome balances and meets the needs of the Member and Meridian Effective people leadership skills including 11 coaching, employee engagement results & action planning, personnel management (including goal setting, performance management, and hiring) and team succession planning.
