Software Test Engineer I – CDN

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted June 19, 2019.

The Software Test Engineer I carries out procedures and actions to ensure that all information systems products and services meet minimum organization standards and end-user requirements.

This team member thoroughly tests software to ensure proper operation and sufficient quality and also documents and works to resolve all problems, reporting progress on problem resolution to both management, and responsible parties in a way designed to facilitate increased delivery of value to the customer, and to eliminate unnecessary hand-offs and waste.

This team member will also devise improvements to current procedures and develop prototypes of possible future procedural configurations.

This team member will also be responsible for performing workflow analysis and executing quality improvements.

The Software Test Engineer 1 will work to eliminate unnecessary work, and to automate test cases using both test tools and traditional development coding languages and processes.

ADMINISTRATION AND DEVELOPMENT (15) Receive, review and prioritize assignments accordingly Attend assigned training sessions Provide training sessions and mentoring of other team members, as assigned Read and acknowledge assigned training modules Other administrative tasks as needed including timesheet submissions Offer new technical ideas to achieve individual goals, team goals and facilitate their adoption Maintain open communications within the software development process Maintain communication and relations with all internal GM Financial business units AUDIT COMPLIANCE (10) Read and acknowledge company policies Ensure compliance with internal controls, security configuration standards, company policies and responsibilities pertaining to the management and security of customer and business confidential information Adhere to and ensure team members adhere to the GMF project development practices and applicable ITS policies PROJECTSASSIGNMENTS (60) Participate with the Quality Assurance team on projects, conducting Quality Assurance Testing and participate in the successful review of business and technical requirements for projects, assignments, and processes Write-up of Quality Assurance artifacts required for projects Adhere to the GMF Quality Assurance processes Adhere to problem management process including reporting on problem resolution Analyze existing work streams and test cases to determine which are most beneficial to automate, and outline these for future automation efforts Work to automate test cases, using industry-standard test and development tools Review software requirements, technical and functional specification documents to design develop automation scripts to assure the code operates as defined Develop detailed specifications for new systems or system enhancements Develop applications forms and reports for assigned systems Develop file and database structures, and interfaces between internal and external systems Facilitate automated acceptance testing and auto-generate proper reports Automate, execute, continuously integrate maintain complex test scripts while properly generating results to communicate issues found across organizational groups Maintain defect tracking information Work closely with business analyst and software development teams to assist with documentation Document and compile project deliverables for audit review purposes Communicate with managers and business partners on business systems and project statuses Perform activities (manual testing) where needed UAT Support (15) Assist with the support for business users completing User Acceptance Testing on applications Assist in the creation of UAT Test script writing and data creation Assist Department Management in setting up of UAT accounts for UAT testing Assist in the organizing of training for end users to operate new or modified programs REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Team Leader Quality Assurance
– CDN Dealer Services Canada Knowledge Knowledge of process improvement and development practices Knowledge of the software development process and industry standards to support the processes Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access Knowledge of defect tracking systems Knowledge of programming languages Knowledge of various testing types Knowledge of test automation approaches Knowledge of a Sr Quality Assurance Analyst, Software Test Engineer or Software developer, working within a larger software developmentQA organization Analytical skills with an ability to evaluate problems and issues Ability to exercise independent judgment and realize potential consequences to other processes Flexible and adaptable in regards to learning and understanding new practices Strong listening, written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills (verbally and written) Well organized and detail-oriented, giving great attention to documentation and policy adherence Highly motivated, self-directed, dependable, and demonstrates flexibility Ability to deal with and adapt to a constant change and effectively prioritize as well as execute tasks in a high-pressure environment within critical deadlines Ability to relate well with others, build relationships and constructively interact with a variety of people and situations Programming skills in a third-generation language such as C or Java preferred Ability and willingness to learn new computer skills, programming languages, technologies and techniques Ability to understand and to test markup languages such as XML and JSON Contributed to the continuous advancement or replacement of current processes Designed and implemented automated test processes and Software Quality Assurance (SQA) or similar development role methodologies necessary to deliver scalable, and maintainable in an on-time and cost effective manner Experience 5-10 years’ work experience engaging in a software development process andor methodology Experience working independently with little to no supervision and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment Has acted as the central point of contact for a project or for a sub-team if part of a larger QA team Experience testing mobile devices, such as mobile phones and tablets Experience testing APIs using tools such as SoapUI Experience with cross-browser compatibility testing using tools such as PerfectoWeb or similar Experience testing SQL tables using tools such as SQL (language agonistic) and tools such as Toad Experience analyzing test results from a technical standpoint and the ability to isolate performance issues prior to escalating to the appropriate group for resolution Environment None Education Secondary School degree required College diploma or University degree in the field of computer science or Information Systems or equivalent is preferred Completed accredited courses relating to Quality Assurance or programming disciplines or a desire to continue education in this field is an asset
