Sr. Android Engineer

Job Description: Rakuten Rewards is looking for a Senior Android Engineer to join our rapidly growing engineering team and help us continue to design and build the best mobile shopping experience for Android mobile devices.

We’re an international team spanning across 3 continents responsible for building software used by millions of users.

Working within a Tribe & Squad structure, you will collaborate with product, design and engineering teammates to build and maintain exciting and innovative features focused on enhancing and simplifying the user’s purchase journey.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and designers to brainstorm and implement new features throughout the user’s purchase journey (in-app browser, checkout etc) Contribute to our in-app browser library and maintain existing components owned by the team Participate in code reviews, architecture reviews, and Android Guild Improve code quality over time through fixing bugs, refactoring old code, and improving unit test coverage Help Rakuten achieve its mission by making sure it’s accessible and usable by everyone MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Experience with Kotlin and knowledge of Android architecture patterns (MVP/MVVM), extra points for Java experience Experience with entire product lifecycle duties in an Agile environment Proficiency with Git and git development flows Familiarity with push notifications, APIs, continuous integration, and cloud messaging Experience with integrating with REST and GraphQL back-end APIs Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills Solid understanding of Android threading and processing QUALIFICATIONS: B.S.

or M.S.

in Computer Science or related experience Minimum 4 years of application development experience Strong communication and presentation skills Experience with Jetpack Compose or other declarative UI frameworks a plus Experience working in design systems a plus Experience working on browser or in app browser technologies a plus Experience working with other Android developers as part of a team a plus Knowledge of Accessibility (a11y) best practices a plus RAKUTEN SHUGI PRINCIPLES Our worldwide practices describe specific behaviors that make Rakuten unique and united across the world.
