Overview of the position The Research and Analysis Department (RAD) is looking for a research assistant to join its strong EDC Economics’ team of economists, political risk and financial analysts.

RAD’s primary role is to provide reliable, relevant and timely analysis on forward-looking issues for current and prospective Canadian traders and investors as well as EDC executives.

We do this by: Preparing internal and external analysis, reports, presentations, briefs, blogs and data visualizations on a variety of international trade and investment issues Producing rapid-response and longer-term analysis that informs senior management’s decision-making and corporate strategy Collaborating in our research with universities, government departments and think tanks Our work is currently focused on the following themes: Know and grow EDC’s total addressable market Assess and build trade knowledge, confidence and capacity Understand the export journey and identify “Nextporters”, including in traditionally under-represented groups Examine the growing roles played by: Foreign Direct Investment; foreign affiliates; services; State-Owned Enterprises; digital, green and intra-firm trade Trade and investment agreements (NAFTA; CETA; CPTPP)Document the performance benefits and key factors and capabilities that distinguish Canada’s most successful internationally-engaged companies ResponsibilitiesThis position will work together with other economic analysts and reports to the Deputy Chief Economist and Director of RAD.

Key responsibilities include: Assist the work of RAD’s analysts as well as individually contribute research and analysis Ad hoc analysis and rapid-response in support of the Chief and Deputy Chief Economists Collect and synthesize data and background information to support various on-going projects Develop databases, dashboards and automate presentation preparation Presentation support and data visualization Ideal Candidate Currently enrolled or recently completed a degree in Economics, International Affairs, Politics, Business Administration or Finance Knowledge of international economics, trade and trade policy, statistical analysis and the Canadian economy Strong communication skills and ability to distill complex information into practical conclusions or recommendations Ability to write in a clear, assessible manner Ability to work independently on a variety of subjects and quickly absorb new material Highly developed analytical, research skills and logic Strong ability to work with Excel, PowerPoint, statistical packages, economic databases and research resources Ability to manage time and work on multiple concurrent projects Ability to communicate effectively in both official languages, as well as other key international trading market languages will be an asset What can you expect from an EDC work term?
