This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted June 26, 2019.

SHIFT started 18 months ago, received venture funding and is now growing quickly.

In less than a year, SHIFT has been used by hundreds of teams and by over two dozen publicly traded companies including Dow DuPont, Zendesk, Mozilla, DocuSign, Dolby, McKinsey & Company and many others.

The Role As SHIFT’s very first product marketer, you will build our Product Marketing function from the ground up and do whatever it takes to ensure our products keep resonating with clients.

You will be a connecting voice between our Growth, Customer Success and Product teams.

Your work will impact just about every team at SHIFT, from our engineering efforts to our broader growth strategy.

This is a mission critical role for us – we can’t build a successful business without the very best product marketing.

You will play a crucial role in SHIFT having strong and consistent messaging and positioning as we grow our client base.

You’ll keep us fresh and relevant as we evolve and learn from our clients.

We’ll rely on you to ensure new initiatives land well with customers.

Our clients are Fortune 500 companies undergoing massive transformation programs and we support them from inception to execution.

Our key client stakeholders are: (1) the Chief Transformation or People Officer, who needs to understand and appreciate how SHIFT’s tools will help them achieve the goals they have for their organization and (2) the managers and teams, who are the hands-on users of our products.

You will work very closely with our Head of Product and Head of Customer Success, taking ownership of our product strategy, messaging, content and activities to ensure that SHIFT’s cross-channel positioning and marketing resonates with those key stakeholders.

Specifically, you’ll contribute to SHIFT’s growth by: Doing a deep dive on our clients’ needs.

You will be the customer voice and keep everyone at SHIFT aligned on how best to serve them Crafting strategic communications and consistent messaging.

You will anchor our entire go-to-market org on a bold, consistent product story.

You’ll work with our Growth team in ensuring effective sales messaging, testing and analysing new messaging strategies and defining target user type personas Creating our sales playbook.

As we scale out our sales efforts, we’ll need a single definitive resource on all things sales: the high-level pitch, segmenting across industries and user types, customer case studies, competitive comparisons and more Informing and influencing our overall product strategy In your first couple of months, you can expect to get an in-depth understanding of our product and clients by shadowing all interactions with both the buyers (CTOs/CPOs) and end users (managers and teams) of our product.

This will allow you to crisply define the problems that our clients are looking for us to solve and the product attributes that will help us solve them.

With all of that knowledge under your belt, we’ll expect you to help us develop, frame and then test our positioning and messaging to see what resonates to ultimately drive growth and customer success.

Specifically, you can expect to tackle projects like these: Radically redesign all of our enterprise sales collateral Build out and rebrand our website, develop meaningful content that will resonate with our clients and the broader org transformation thought community Work with our Head of Growth to design compelling and effective marketing campaigns across all channels You We know that we’re looking for someone who might be difficult to find.

The right person for us will be at the center of a Venn diagram of: creative product marketer, excellent communicator and lover of scrappy & entrepreneurial environments.

You also must care deeply about culture and talent (because your goal will be to reach 10 million people in the next 2 years) You Should Have: A scrappy, entrepreneurial approach (you see problems as opportunities and would rather build than read the handbook).

Curiosity and interest in understanding how our clients think and work (you are basically like a method actor, willing to get in our client’s shoes to dive deep into what it’s like to be them).

An uncanny ability to craft strong strategic messages and stories (preferably you’ll also need to be comfortable with design and copywriting – at this stage, we’re an all hands on deck kind of team but for the right candidate, we would be able to find design and copywriting resources).

An aptitude for leading, motivating, and wrangling cross-functional teams to deliver on launch plans.

Creative and analytical problem solving skills (you’ll figure out new ways to do things where there is little precedent or data).

An obsession with data-driven decision making (You dig into root causes analytically, instead of relying on intuition alone).

Confidence to reach out to industry thought leaders and experts to make sure we are always at the forefront of the transformation industry.

History of taking complicated problems, finding implementable solutions and seeing the implementation through to the end from the higher level strategy down to the nitty gritty details.

Experience in a B2B SaaS marketing organization in a product marketing role is preferred but not necessary.

A team player; we all do what is needed to succeed.

That includes making a sexy sales strategy and it might mean digging deep into a drip email campaign.

Slight preference for Toronto but we’re open to remote.
