Belmont House

This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted January 29, 2019.


Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Housekeeper/Cleaner/Laundry will provide quality services for the facility and grounds in compliance with all Belmont House policies and procedures.


(Other duties may be assigned):

  • Providing cleaning services to tenant and resident rooms, staff offices and other common areas at Belmont House (Clean, mop, scrub, sweep, vacuum, dust, polish, wax, buff etc.)
  • Follow daily cleaning routines and weekly deep cleaning routine as outlined in work schedule
  • Follow all universal precautions, Company policies and procedures and use personal protective equipment as needed while cleaning
  • Follow waste management schedules including recycling and garbage disposal
  • Dust, mops, waxes and buffs floors and shampoos carpets
  • Clean and maintain drinking fountains and washrooms
  • Clean blinds/drapes with damp cloth or vacuum
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as required to improve the environment for Belmont House resident, tenant, staff and visitors.
  • Complete housekeeping assignments within the time allotted Perform light building and grounds maintenance as assigned. (e.g. picking up garbage)
  • Occasional simple training of temporary workers in basic housekeeping duties
  • Provide support for programs and services as required including setup, breakdown and proper handing and storage of furniture/equipment
  • Clean snow/debris from sidewalks Salt Belmont House external area as required by Housekeeping supervisor
  • Clean clothes, linen and apparel as well as all phases of drying, ironing, folding, loading and delivery All other duties as assigned by Housekeeping Supervisor
  • Address all concerns/inquiries from residents and tenants Report unsafe conditions to Nursing Department and/or Housekeeping Supervisor immediately
  • Work in a cooperative manner with other Housekeepers/Cleaners/Laundry staff to serve needs of tenants and residents

COMPETENCIES (Behavioural & Technical Skills)

  • Ability to interact with seniors
  • Must be capable of using Housekeeping Equipment, i.e., pushing carts, using vacuum cleaners, carpet shampoo machines and buffing machines, lifting buckets and mopes, washers, dryers
  • Must be professional and friendly when dealing with residents, staff, volunteers and family members
  • Ability to learn tasks within a short period of time (Will receive on the job training)
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and speak English
  • Initiative and judgement required to maintain workflow
  • Ability to articulate and demonstrate resident safety strategies
  • Adheres to policies and procedures of Belmont House and regulations set out by the Ministry of Health and Long term Care at all times


  • Minimum O.S.S.D. or equivalent
  • Previous experience in the Housekeeping field required
  • Previous experience in Long Term Care preferred
