The company owns and operates landfills, waste transfer and haulage facilities, biosolids processing plants, composting facilities, food/residual organic processing facilities and landfill gas renewable energy projects throughout Canada. Our product brands, created from the recovery of resources often considered waste, include N-Rich®, All Treat Farms® and Gro-Bark®. Lead MechanicAs our new Lead Mechanic, you are a certified Mechanic, Truck or Coach Technician (310T) or Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic (421A).  As part of our team in Niagara Falls and under the supervision of the Compost Operations Manager, you will take the lead in directing work flow, creating schedules and overseeing daily operations.   You’re perfect for this job because you are a strong team player who enjoys servicing and troubleshooting vehicles and equipment, you are able to work independently, interpreting work orders and technical manuals, maintaining work logs and meeting deadline.  You also enjoy performing preventive maintenance on equipment. Your superior mechanical aptitude and interest in mechanics ensures that work is done correctly, efficiently, with ‘attention to detail’ and safe-work practices in mind.  You are able to design, weld and manufacture custom pieces when necessary.  You keep up-to-date with changes in technology, are open to learning new techniques, communicate well and problem solve at a high level.This is a full-time position working, Monday to Friday with some Saturday work.   We offer an hourly rate of $35.00 per hour with full benefits and pension. Your uniform and tools will be provided.We’re looking for someone with these skills and qualifications:* Experience directing and leading staff in a customer service focused environment* Good communication skills – able to work with diverse personalities* Proficient computer skills* Truck or Coach Technician (310T) or Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic (421A)* A welding ticket or certification would be an asset.* Experience repairing and maintaining trucks through inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems.* Knowledge and experience of heavy equipment, particularly grinders/shredders would be an asset, especially hydraulics, electronics and automation systems.* Able to lift 60lbs* Valid driver’s licenseWorking at Walker IndustriesEstablished in 1887, we are proud to be a fifth-generation, family-owned, Canadian company.
