Residential counselor trainee

Bairn Croft Residential Services

This is a Full-time position in Ottawa, ON posted June 26, 2019.

Bairn Croft Residential Services (BCRS) was established in 1996 and provides residential and community based services and treatment for dependent and semi-dependent male and female persons with developmental disabilities and special needs.

We provide services and intervention for children and adults of all ages who present with a range of functioning levels, emotional adjustment issues, and behavioural challenges.

We also offer specialized services that address the needs of individuals without significant intellectual deficits but who face challenges secondary to neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, or other behavioural challenges or learning deficits that result in serious impairments in daily functioning.The successful applicant will possess the following skill set:Strong communication (verbal, reading, writing) and active listeningCritical thinking, problem solving and decision makingJob task planning and organizationPatience and ability to remain objectiveCrisis management and ability to work in a fast paced environmentCollaborationInnovative, enthusiastic and creativeFlexible and open mindedPassionate and positive attitude** In lieu of education: Applicants will be considered for employment opportunities provided they commit to and complete a 3 month (paid) educational and training program offered by BCRS.

The continuation of employment will be dependent on work ethic and successful completion of program.Educational and Training Program: Those individuals enrolled in this program will shadow residential staff for 3 months observing and learning behaviour intervention techniques, application and strategy.

Employees in this program will receive comprehensive on the job training paired with tutorials designed to optimize innovative learning in the areas of theory, intellectual disabilities, mental health, Policies and Procedures and administrative tasks while providing the employee with solid understanding of BCRS’s mission.Experience: Previous experience is an asset but not required.Positions available: Contract, Shift Work (Days, Evenings, Weekends, Overnights)Wages: $14.00/hour while enrolled in the training program.

Increased to $19.00/hour after successful completion the Educational and Training Program.Work Setting: working with adults in a residential setting.Target Groups or Clients: Male and Female Adults.

Your employment will include working with culturally diverse groups, and will also include persons who are deaf/hard of hearing, persons who are blind/visually impaired, persons with intellectual disabilities, persons with mental health disabilities, and persons with learning disabilities. Job Duties include but are not limited to: Assess client’s relevant skill strengths and development needsResolve conflict situationsSupervise activities of clients living in group homesImplement behaviour management programsProvide personal services support to persons with special needsLiaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clientsDevelop service intervention logic models and outcome measuresMaintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and researchAssist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs
