VP, Corporate Development


This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted January 23, 2023.

VP, Corporate Development Job location: our office in Ottawa or Toronto.

About the team The VP, Corporate Development is responsible for identifying, exploring, analyzing, and executing on mergers and acquisitions, and opportunities for strategic organizational growth or restructuring that impact the success of the organization .

The VP, Corporate Development establishes strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including investment bankers, and industry experts , to identify acquisition targets, and is instrumental in negotiating their purchase, and subsequent integration.

The incumbent is influential in defining the strategic direction of mergers and acquisitions strategy of the organization, and partners with senior leaders across the business to drive strategic initiatives forward and to achieve organizational excellence.

What you will do Responsible for pipeline management and creating M&A deal pipeline aligned to the organization’s acquisition strategy.

Sources deals, plans and negotiates acquisitions, ensures due diligence, advises on integration strategy, and is accountable for partnering with stakeholders from across the business, including Change Management, Internal Communications, Finance, HR, and Legal, to ensure successful and effective M&A integrations.

Expertly leverages data and analytics and comprehensive research to prepare and deliver thorough, influential, thought-provoking proposals and recommendations to senior leaders that lead to consensus in decision making.

Lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for building and executing on the organization’s M&A strategy Acquire a deep understanding of the industry, business and its clients, including specific challenges, anticipates market and industry trends, risks, and potential impacts, and uses information to identify strategic opportunities for product, services, or organizational growth.

Leverages Investor Relations to influence and support M&A strategy, effectively positioning the organization favourably with investors and external market.

Undertakes significant market research and leverages that research to influence M&A activity.

Deeply understands financial statements and can draw conclusions to influence decision making.

What we are looking for 15 years’ experience as a senior leader in Corporate Development, M&A, or Investment Banking Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills Expert collaborator and relationship builder; ability to quickly build rapport, credibility, and trusted relationships with Senior internal and external stakeholders, including investors.

Strong relationship-building and influencing skills and the ability to prioritize business requirements appropriately through a collaborative partnership approach Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, and a keen ability to prioritize business needs and requirements appropriately Extensive experience leading and executing Mergers and Acquisitions in a high-tech environment Experience influencing and driving an M&A strategy in a global organization Deep and broad experience leading due diligence activities, and integration of people, processes, and tools Exceptional presentation skills; experience presenting to an executive audience, including Board members Investment banking experience and the ability to understand and articulate financial statements, financial modeling, forecasting and risk management
