The Manager provides support to the Associate Director in the daily management of residence services including desk services, maintenance tracking and general client satisfaction within the University of Guelph residence system. The Area Manager operates with a high level of autonomy and is responsible for providing leadership within a dynamic environment that constitutes one of the largest residence systems in the country providing physical accommodation, psycho-social and academic support to a population of approximately 5000 undergraduate students. The single student residence system is composed of ten (10) traditional student residences which can be grouped into three (3) geographical areas of focus: South, North, and East. The incumbent will be responsible for all desk service activities in one (1) of these three (3) areas, working closely with two (2) other Area Managers to coordinate and collaborate efforts across all campus residences. They are responsible for the scheduling and management of approximately 6 full time Porters/Desk Clerks and 10 part-time student staff. The desks run three (3) shifts operating 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Some non-traditional hours of work may apply. Requirements of this position include: Completion of post-secondary education coupled with several years’ progressive management experience. The individual must be an anticipatory thinker who can set priorities and follow through to completion on daily trouble shooting situations, process improvement projects, and training programs which align with organizational strategic goals and operational needs. The Manager will be an excellent communicator with an inherent ability to influence the performance of others and build rapport and collaborative working relationships among frontline workers, supervisors, managers, and directors across Student Housing Services at all levels as well as with other workplace parties, including union and management representatives.
