TNO – THE NEIGHBOURHOOD ORGANIZATION (TNO, formerly Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office) is a community based multicultural, multi-service agency which offers a broad range of programs to serve Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, and the surrounding communities through strengthening the quality of individual and community life.

 

Program/Project Description:

EarlyON Child and Family Centre is a place for children from birth to the age of six, and their parents and caregivers to take part in programs and activities together to facilitate early learning development and school readiness. Parents and caregivers can also receive information regarding their child/ren’s development, early intervention and community agencies to develop, enhance and support their development.

 

Position Summary:

The Program Facilitator and Outreach Worker is responsible for the outreach work of EarlyON CFC programs, and facilitates programs and activities for EarlyON program participating families and children at multiple locations. She/he works as a team with the staff of EarlyON CFC and is responsible for the children, families, and environment that they are in. She/he will also support and actively engage in TNO’s community development principles and initiatives (It’s derived from current TNO’s Strategic Directions).

 

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements outreach plan in conjunction with other TNO programs and agencies within the riding
  • Conducts outreach in an anti-bias and culturally sensitive manner to all families
  • Organizes and attends special events
  • Develops materials for outreach using a wide range of resources
  • Plans and implements activities, cleans up the program and activities
  • Facilitate the School Readiness and other programs in conjunction with the EarlyON CFC staff
  • Purchases supplies and snacks for programs as needed
  • Support the EarlyON CFC team in running programs and activities in an efficient manner including providing rotational coverage
  • Prepares reports as required
  • Markets programs to corporations and foundations for potential funding when required
  • Attends strategic meetings as required
  • Develops individualized outreach plans for each assigned service locations in collaboration with other TNO programs or external service providers
  • Jointly with service partners conducts program promotion in community social landmarks
  • Coordinates activities with other TNO departments and services
  • Provides orientation and training for all accepted volunteers and placement students
  • Maintains up to date records of volunteer and placement students’ attendances, and other documentations.
  • Responsible for ensuring that volunteers/placement students’ learning goals and professional experience needs are met
  • Actively participates in program’s community development activities including advocacy, outreach and community engagement and empowerment activities
  • Participates in networks of  neighbourhood based service providers
  • Nurtures community members for leadership
  • Participates in and supports local community events
  • Networks with other staff, attends staff meetings & agency events including United Way related activites, staff social events, community events, staff and agency committees
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education

  • The minimum level of education preferred is a Community College Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Registered ECE preferred.
  • Must possess successful and valid police clearance for vulnerable sector/ First Aid & CPR certification/ tuberculosis test result

Experience:

  • One to three years of experience in outreach work or working with children, and be able to work and communicate with families with children age 0-6. She/he needs to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a wide range of community settings.
  • Ability to program for children age 0-6
  • Experience working with low-income, multi-racial, multi-lingual newcomer communities
  • Experience working from an integrated anti-oppression, LGBTO+ positive framework

 

Other:

  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English and another language is an asset
    • Proficiency in the use of computers including word and data processing, designing flyers and presentation; projectors, cellphones, phones, fax machines, printers and photocopiers and social media
    • Proven experience in team work and also working independently
    • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
    • Ensures that all records are kept confidential and secure

Good understanding of child development and needs of children Strong interpersonal skills to communicate sensitively and effectively and build rapports with children and adults in diverse setting

Working Conditions:

Hours of Work:

This position is a full time position. Successful candidate would be required to work regular hours for 35 hours per week., and flexible between 8.30 AM to 8:00 PM besides evening shifts and weekends as decided by program requirements.

 

Location:

This position will be located within any of TNO’s service locations based on community and program requirements. The locations (multiple) for this position may be added or moved to new addresses in the future according to the community and program requirements.
