Transportation Planner / Transportation Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Parry Sound, ON posted June 16, 2021.

Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Not Applicable/None Job Description: Transportation Planner / Transportation Engineer Parsons is seeking a Transportation Planner/Engineer to help support transportation projects in Eastern Ontario involving the study, planning, and design of infrastructure such as complete streets, pathways, cycling facilities, rapid transit facilities, and other transportation systems.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES : The candidate will carry out some, or all, of the following responsibilities, which will vary on a project-by-project basis: Lead the completion of active transportation plans and policy studies, including the evaluation of alternative planning and engineering solutions to active transportation challenges/opportunities; Contribute to the completion of larger transportation projects of varying complexity; Support the delivery of transportation impact assessment studies for private sector developments, including Client and City liaison, report writing, community consultation, etc.; Be informed of emerging trends in transportation planning/engineering; Manage or coordinate the work of other disciplines and firms and work within a team environment; Contribute to the preparation of proposals; Prepare project planning schedules and budgets; Prepare and deliver presentations to clients and stakeholders; Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and municipal staff as required; and Contribute to business development activities including networking and developing new client relationships.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 4-year degree in Urban/Regional Planning or Civil Engineering is required, and 3 to 10 years of related work experience, or equivalent, is preferred.

Candidate should have a broad technical background in Transportation Planning, as well as a solid understanding of the City of Ottawa’s OP/TMP, MMLOS and TIA Guidelines.

Registration as a Professional Planner or Professional Engineer, in Ontario is required.

Strong Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (with an emphasis on EXCEL and WORD applications).

Experience with design software such as Sketchup, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES : Evolving or proven Project Management skills to meet Parsons’ project management certification requirements.

Proven ability to perform in a subject matter expert and/or management capacity.

Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Thorough knowledge of industry practices, guidelines and regulations.

Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required.

Bilingual English/French is not required but is preferred.
