Director Packaging Development, Sustainability and Sourcing

Reporting to the Sr.

Director National Sourcing, the Director Packaging Development, Sustainability and Sourcing will be responsible for the design and delivery of primary and secondary packaging for innovation, renovation, sustainability and cost savings initiatives.

You will manage multiple development projects and prioritize tasks based on timelines and business priorities.

You will deliver effectively in a cross-functional team environment by working with Merchandising, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, Product Development and many external suppliers.

The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams is essential.

Responsibilities: You will be the primary subject-matter expert for all packaging materials used in the production and delivery of of meal kits as well as consult on the private label grocery side Deliver packaging innovation by partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to delight the consumer with sustainable and creative packaging solutions Design and develop packaging that is customer facing and meets the critical goals of sustainability and cost leadership Design packaging in conjunction with Product development and other stakeholders, where applicable, that will preserve the quality / freshness and maximize shelf life Placing sustainability at the forefront of innovation development Partner with suppliers, Operations and co-packers to develop and validate packaging specifications for all new products Manage multiple development projects and prioritize tasks based on timelines Keep up to date specs on all purchased items as well as current artwork files Continuously refine/tighten specs in collaboration with operations to minimize manufacturing variances and/or waste/downtime in production Evaluate our current packaging portfolio vs your solid market knowledge to bring forward recommendations for environmental driven changes Lead packaging trials for new product launches, working closely with Product Development, Supply Chain, Sales and Operations Prioritize projects based on greatest impact and ease of implementation Requirements B.S.

Degree (Packaging Science, or engineering equivalent) and 10 years’ experience in the packaging field, preferably in the consumer facing food industry (CPG).

Broad packaging component knowledge and experience in rigid, bottles, closures and flexible packaging Demonstrates understanding of package development process and engineering principles with proven success in conversion to sustainability Ability to design and develop primary and secondary packaging components that meet consumer, brand, customer, and manufacturing objectives.

A solid general understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain packaging commitments to project scheduling.

Must understand consumer, business, and category needs and the relationship to packaging decisions & execution.

An entrepreneurial mindset is beneficial.

Business acumen such as knowledge and understanding of the financials, marketing, and operations of an organization; apply good judgment and make smart decisions.
