Purpose of Job: The Director Risk Regulatory Program & Initiatives will be part of the Enterprise Risk Governance team in Global Risk Management reporting to the VP Regulatory Initiatives.

The Director will work with the VP to design, implement, and direct and provide oversight for multiple Enterprise-wide programs for the Global Risk Management function.

The Director is expected to have significant knowledge of and familiarity with developing and operationalizing a risk oversight and/or assurance program.

Breadth of Risk management experience across a number of risk types including knowledge of OSFI regulatory expectations is required.

The Director will be expected to collaborate with stakeholders across the Bank, requiring sound communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

Job Responsibilities: Coordinate and manage the roll-out and implementation of key GRM enterprise programs such as the GRM Compliance Control Function Reliance Model, Regulatory Reporting Target Operating Model, and Organizational Behaviour and Ethics.

Design and implement a risk-based approach to oversee compliance with GRM owned policies and procedures.

This will include the review of systems, processes, procedures, reports, transactions to assess whether governance, risk management and control processes are operating as intended.

Collaborate with other internal stakeholders across the three lines of defense Provide oversight and challenge of the management of the in-scope risks across the bank Stay abreast of regulatory and other developments that impact related GRM programs Monitor best practices at other financial institutions in Canada and globally Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations in his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, it’s Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF sanctions and conduct risk Build a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Job Requirements: Experience working in a team environment and proven ability to provide guidance, promoting good communication, objective thinking and cooperation Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills and strong communication skills are essential to influence and collaborate effectively with others A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant risk, audit, compliance, regulatory, or professional practice management experience in the financial services industry Experience in developing and maintaining Enterprise-wide programs Sound knowledge or working experience with regulatory expectations for the financial services industry Control design and effectiveness testing experience an asset Bachelor’s degree required.
