General Manager

This is a Contract position in Cambridge, ON posted January 23, 2023.

Our client, Vista Ridge All Season Park (VRASP), is excited to announce they are recruiting for a General Manager to lead the team and oversee their facility in Fort McMurray, AB.

The General Manager reports to the VRASP Park Board of Directors and ensures strategic business objectives are achieved.

They are responsible for ensuring that the facility is managed in a manner that contributes to attaining goals established through annual operating plans, execution of programs and continuous improvement initiatives.

If you have a passion for a high-growth environment and are committed to creating impact while seeking continuous improvement, they want to talk to you Key Responsibilities: Operations: Accountable for the administration of all Park lodge facilities equipment, operations, and procedures.

Coordinates the development and implementation of the VRASP long-range and annual (business) plans.

Consistently ensures that the Park is operated in accordance with all applicable municipal, provincial, and federal laws.

Oversees the care and maintenance of the Park’s physical assets and facilities.

Provides for and manages use of the Park’s equipment, space, and materials.

Ensures the standards for food, beverage, sports and recreation, entertainment, and other VRASP services are competitive.

Establishes and monitors compliance with purchasing policies and procedures.

Maintains relations with police, fire, liquor control board, health department and other governmental agencies.

Directs purchasing, receiving, storage, issuing, preparation and control of all products, supplies and equipment.

Ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation of all Park facilities and environments.

Maintains membership with professional associations.

Attends conferences, workshops, and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field.

Performs competitive analyses on parks and other businesses providing alternatives through personal observations and historical reports.

Attends meetings of the Park’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

Serves as liaison between all management staff and the board.

Prepares reports and other support material for committee and board use.

Negotiates and recommends board approval for contracts.

Handles emergencies such as incidents, accidents and breaches of security or house rules promptly and in person.

Emphasizes prevention through training, inspection, and preventive enforcement.

Gives direction to and works closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms and individuals providing services to the Park.

Plans, develops, and approves specific operational policies, programs, procedures, and methods in concert with general policies.

Implements general policies established by the Board of Directors; directs their administration and execution.

Manages the administration of insurance, legal issues with external legal counsel and maintains regulatory compliance for business-related requirements, i.e., Business license Keeps active action item list with due dates and updates as to what is ahead and behind schedule from board members and Vista Ridge Team.

Performs other duties as directed by the president or board of directors.

Financial: Coordinates development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar; monitors monthly and other financial statements for the club; takes effective corrective action as required.

Accountable for the finances and establishing the Budget in consult with the Finance committee.

Provides advice and recommendations to the Chairman and committees about construction, alterations, maintenance, materials, supplies, equipment, and services not provided in approved plans and/or budgets.

Analyzes financial statements, manages cash flow, and establishes controls to safeguard funds.

Reviews income and costs relative to goals; takes corrective action, as necessary.

Manages audit compliance by ensuring audit gaps are closed Ensures the quarterly statements are emailed to the Board four times a year and due by the 20th of the month following the quarter end.

Human Resources: Establishes and maintains a basic personnel policy; initiates and monitors policies relating to personnel actions and training and professional development programs.

Responsible for recruitment and hiring of staff to obtain a 90% fill rate or higher.

Develops, maintains, and administers a sound organizational plan, and initiates improvements, as necessary.

Convenes and presides over meetings with departmental managers; conducts all facility personnel meetings.

Works with subordinate department heads to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all employees and contractors.

Has ultimate authority over inter-departmental matters and implements policies concerning employee-employer relations.

Develops, maintains, and disseminates a basic management philosophy to guide all Park personnel toward optimal operating results, employee morale and member satisfaction.

Establishes and approves workloads, work methods and performance standards.

Manages staffing, schedules, calendars, employee vacation, and appointments to ensure there is enough staff to operate at a high level of service to our members and guests.

Evaluates and manages staff performance through annual performance reviews and feedback in the moment positive and room for improvement conversations.

Accountable for ensuring Vista Ridge All Season Park is compliant with contractual and legislative requirements such as Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health & Safety.

Ensure we have a fair and safe environment for our teams to be the most productive.

Customer Relations: Develops annual marketing and communications plans to include required annual budget.

Professionally manages all aspects of VRASP activities to ensure and maintain the quality of products and services provided by the Park.

Participates in outside activities that are judged as appropriate and approved by the Board of Directors to ensure Vista Ridge and its service are well known and fulfill the obligations of the area as a participating member of the community.

Coordinates and serves as an ex-officio member of appropriate Park committees.

Coordinates the marketing and membership relations programs to promote VRASP services and facilities to potential and present members.

Reviews and initiates programs to provide members with a variety of popular events.

Coordinates as necessary arrangements for public functions and social gatherings including seating according to protocol and special courtesies extended to guests.

Handles all guest inquiries and complaints Manages the administration of Vista Ridge All Season Park’s social media presence, marketing, promotions, etc.

What you bring to Vista Ridge All Season Park: Post secondary education in a field related to business, hospitality, or recreation would be an asset.

5 years working experience with 2 years in a management position would be an asset.

Management and supervisory experience in leading a team of multidiscipline staff to operate a business with highly fluctuating seasonal business activities.

Experience in developing annual budgets and monthly financial reports with action plans to address deviations.

General knowledge of applicable accounting rules and regulations governing business activities such as payroll, and annual financial reporting would be an asset.

Experience in ski, golf, recreation, and hospitality industry are an asset.

Experience in developing and presenting monthly operating reports, monitoring results against key performance indicators, and preparing action plans to meet goals is an asset.
