Senior Director, Market Risk

ABOUT THE TEAM The incumbent manages a team that provides market risk oversight of the entire capital markets portfolio.

He/She will contribute to the preparation and implementation of the market risk team’s strategic plan in line with the strategic objectives of the risk group and PSP in general.

The team is responsible for developing and promoting cutting-edge expertise in the quantification and analysis of public market investment risk to assist portfolio managers in the interpretation and use of risk information in their decision-making process.

He/She also performs effective team management and supports the Head of Market and Transversal Risk in maintaining sound risk governance at PSP in strategic projects.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE As a Senior Director, Market Risk, you’ll: Actively contributes to the conception and deployment of the team strategic plan.

Nurtures collaborative relationships and works closely with various stakeholders (traders, fund managers, investment administration, technology, finance) to support them in projects where risk expertise will add value.

Leads and coaches managers to support them in their development and that of the entire team under their responsibility.

Provides analytical and quantitative support to investment units and other PSP teams regarding portfolio construction, monitoring and management.

Proactively improves actual control processes to increase team effectiveness and performance while managing operational risks.

Leads or collaborates on internal initiatives as a market risk subject matter expert to improve efficiency and analytical capabilities Acts as a voting member of the Operations Collaboration Workgroup (“OCW”) to ensure risk needs are considered in operational and technology orientations Validates the quality of the results of the models and risk measurement tools by complying with the requirements of the internal validation procedures and ensuring that the chosen methodologies are in line with the industry’s best practices.

Ensures the documentation regarding risk measurement procedures and methodologies is kept up-to-date.

Stays abreast of developments in risk management to maintain a rigorous internal risk framework in line with industry best practices.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED Education Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (financial engineering, math, administration, etc.) CFA, FRM or PRM professional designation an asset Experience Minimum ten to fifteen years of relevant experience Minimum five years of experience in people management Experience in portfolio management and hedge funds an asset Knowledge & Skills Good leadership skills and team spirit Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills Excellent knowledge of market risk measurement methodologies and derivatives Strong financial intuition and thorough understanding of financial markets Independent and a sense of accountability Professional ethics and integrity Bilingual (English and French) Programming skills (Matlab, SQL, VBA) Knowledge of a market risk computer system Please note that this position is located in our Montreal office.
