Solutions Portfolio Manager – Toronto

We are looking for an experienced IT professional, with a unique mix of exceptional client relationship skills and technical skills.  Are you accustomed to working in an environment with high demand, high impact, high reward? Reporting to the Director, Business Technology Solutions, consider this challenging opportunity as Solutions Portfolio Manager within the IT Business Solutions team and exercise your strong client relationship and partnership building skills on a national scale.


  • Engage with stakeholders and clients across the network to determine needs, understand growth strategies, revenues and budgets,
  • Act as a liaison between the business segments and the IT organization to ensure alignment of IT projects with business priorities
  • Develop plans, contribute to roadmaps, inform strategy and engage staff to deliver cost effective, business-centric IT solutions and services
  • Provide strategic customer-focused technology consulting services to clients
  • Collaborate with other business units, IT branches, public/private sector stakeholders to inform enterprise solutions
  • Coordinate projects within the division, branch and team across the enterprise and within the industry
  • Coordinate market research to identify and evaluate innovative technology trends, productivity tools and methods that enable strategic growth of business stakeholders
  • Develop strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders


  • You have expert knowledge of business systems analysis, design, testing and implementation in multi-platform environments with large software distribution
  • You are able to direct the development, evaluation, and approval of systems and programs designed by staff and consultants
  • You are aware a technologist at heart – you understand the impact of the right solution to addres the business problem. You are aware of new technologies, including hardware/software and other developments in the field (e.g. new methods and tools)
  • You have knowledge of IT standards, strategies, methods, applications, networks and data/system security procedures to assess and improve system efficiency and ensure project compliance


Management and Leadership Skills

  • You can, not only manage teams, but you are a leader of people with experience leading teams of staff, consultants, vendors and other people resources.
  • You have experience leading and managing within a highly complex and sensitive technical environment
  • You have experience with budgeting, procurement and planning as well as vendor management
  • You have knowledge of project management principles, techniques and processes including planning, estimating, budgeting and risk/issues management
  • You have planning, organization, and negotiation skills to coordinate project completion and delivery under tight time and budgetary constraints.

Communication, Interpersonal, and Consulting Skills

  • You are able to develop partnerships with clients and key service providers to ensure the implementation of systems to support critical business needs and system delivery
  • You can provide systems advice to senior systems management as well as build consensus with system clients on project approach
  • You are able to consult with staff in other portfolios, IT Operations, Architecture Branch, and other industry stakeholders on system integration and knowledge sharing opportunities

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • You are able to analyze and evaluate business, financial, and technical impacts of proposed projects on other areas, ministries, and industry
  • You can assess long-term implications of recommendations and evaluate alternatives
  • You can direct staff in design and analysis problem resolution
